You may see a pattern in some of the films. I have seen Inception, Sunshine, Breakfast On Pluto, Girl With A Pearl Earring, Intermission, Disco Pigs, The Edge Of Love, On The Edge, Watching The Detectives, Red Eye, Sunburn, Perrier’s Bounty and Peacock, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, all starring Cillian Murphy.
Inception and Sunshine were the catalyst for my growing interest in this man. His Irish films, I daresay, tend to be better than the bigger productions. He’s got the greatest Cork accent you’ve ever heard. Colleague Jonathan Rhys-Meyers comes from the same area.
Funnily enough, the Batman films I have only seen as part of my 10 film Hans Zimmer challenge.
Rain Man, Thelma & Louise, As Good As It Gets, Something’s Gotta Give, King Arthur, The DaVinci Code, The Dark Knight, Angels & Demons, Pirates of the Carribean - The Curse of the Black Pearl and Pirates of the Carribean - Dead Man’s Chest. I have selected the films carefully. I chose Rain Man because… well, because it’s Rain Man. It has Dustin Hoffman in it. Who was great. It’s not the usual characters he plays. Which is not surprising because autistic people are always… special roles, like gay roles, “black” roles, “fat” roles, as our society still likes to think of people in black and white. “Normal” people and “the freaks”. Hollywood is not innocent. The Dan Brown adaptations because I read The DaVinci Code and because Tom Hanks is just Tom Hanks. The Dark Knight because I was disappointed with the first film. Pirates of the Caribbean because I wanted to get rid off my film nazi self. And because I was annoyed that I hadn’t seen them yet. I won’t watch it if everyone tells me it’s “oh so great”. Guess why it took me ten years to watch “The Matrix”.
